As we wrap up another year, it's a perfect time to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve taken at River of Comfort. From completing essential infrastructure to witnessing a surge in attendance at our monthly gatherings, highlighting more than just a need for food, but a hunger for the gospel. As we share our milestones, reflect on God's goodness in all things, and anticipate what He has in store for us in 2025.
Completed Infrastructure Projects
This year, a significant achievement for River of Comfort was the completion of our new road and cistern. The upgraded road has drastically improved accessibility, allowing both visitors and service providers to reach us more easily. The old road made it challenging to transport those who were ill and limited who could access the facility if they did not have a vehicle that could handle the terrain.
The new cistern and additional water tank is also a vital improvement. It guarantees a steady water supply, for both the residents and the animals on the farm. This enhancement isn't just a convenience—it's a critical resource that supports our mission and daily operations, saving money and freeing the team to focus on serving our community rather than dealing with logistical issues.
Growing Attendance at Monthly Gatherings
We've seen an increase in participation, with last month’s event drawing over 100 individuals. These gatherings have become more than just the distribution of food; they thrive as spaces for fellowship, support, and community building where the gospel is being shared.
As the word travels we see more kids coming and young people, who are looking for support and mentorship who have built a relationship with Steven as a result of his leadership during the recent political unrest in Kenya .
Remodeling for Better Accommodation
To meet the growing demand for bed space for both residents and care staff, we undertook some remodeling of existing spaces, transforming the old kitchen into dedicated sleeping space for workers or residents if we need extra space.
Remembering Mr. Koonyo
This year, we said goodbye to Mr. Koonyo, our first resident at River of Comfort. Mike and John were able to meet with him in the days before he passed and he prayed a blessing over them.
In the last years of his life he experienced stability, security and the love of Jesus, from the Lentorors and the team at ROCM. All of which would not possible without the generosity of our faithful supporters and Granada.
Updates on the Family
Steven has played a crucial role in managing multiple responsibilities across the church, the university, and River of Comfort. Juggling these duties requires resilience and commitment, and he approaches every challenge with a humble heart open to however God can use him.
Carol, is the backbone of the daily operations at ROCM. She makes sure everything is running smoothly and manages the team of helpers. She strives to make every dollar stretch to meet the needs of the residents and the community and approaches every task with joy. They are simply amazing, in the way they lead and love with such humility and grace.
This year has also been filled with achievements for the boys. Daniel completed his final high school exams in Nairobi and is now eagerly awaiting results that will determine his future opportunities. Nathan is participating in the music program at school and loves sports. He enjoyed getting the time to visit with Mike and John and getting caught up on the friends from back "home" in America.
Highlighting Year-End Giving
Thank you for your faithful giving this year. As the year concludes, we are excited to present our updated gift-giving catalogue. If you would like to make a donation in someone's name there are some great opportunities, all of which would make a meaningful impact to the ministry.
A notable need is the rapidly approaching timeline to replace our aging vehicle. The rough terrain in Kenya has taken a toll on the vehicle and repairs are starting to become more frequent and expensive. A new vehicle will ensure we can continue providing essential services without interruption. Please pray with us, that the recent repairs to the car will keep it running and that God would provide funds for a new vehicle in His perfect timing.
Looking Ahead
In summary, reflecting on this remarkable year allows us to celebrate what God has done and those who are obedient to His call in service and support of the organization . Here's to the hope, joy, and blessings that follow when we trust the Lord for his provision in all things. We anticipate a year ahead filled with mores stories reflecting the faithfulness and goodness of our God and sharing them with you along the way.
Thank you for your continued partnership and blessings to you and yours this holiday season.
